@alstan25 It was also demonstrated that 93.3% of the nursing or medical school students (male: 92.8%,female: 93.9%) were suffered or had been suffered from acne vulgaris, that is 92-94% of Japanese young people after 18 years-old had the acne history. They were impressed that insufficient sleep, oily skin and frequent make-up made worse their acne lesions. In order to treat their acne, 38.1% of them got the OCT topical agents through the drug stores, and only 11.8% of them visited doctors.

@alstan25 …was performed by questionnaire. Of 793 students, 315 were male and 478 were female, and their ages ranged from 11-12 years-old to twenties. This acne study revealed that 58.6% of the students (male: 45.7%,female: 67.2%) were suffered from acne vulgaris, and that the average onset was 13.3 years of age, acne lesions appeared on the forehead first and later developed on the cheek and jaw…

@alstan25 increased in the Japanese population. So there are many inconsistencies here. The following study from 2003 published in the Journal of Japanese Cosmetic Science Society did not attach any importance to the issues we are discussing. Abstract: An epidemiological study of acne vulgaris for the 793 students, which consist of 64 of the sixth grade of the elementary school, 120 of the junior high school, 120 of the high school and 489 of the nursing or medical school students…

@alstan25 A complex issue with a small amount of evidence suggesting that refined sugar products in Japanese may be related to an increase in the occurrence of acne. But most studies don’t support a causal relationship which is further complicated by genetics that definitely do play a role and certainly pre-exist the introduction of the refined sugar foods. While the Japanese diet does include a large amount of iodine, true excess iodine causes certain thyroid diseases that don’t seem to be…

this video is really great, you should write a book about acne

  6. alstan25 Says:

iodine causes acne? really now? then why did the japanese who eat seaweed and seafood on a daily bases not get acne until america introduced refined foods into their diet?

  7. timjones066 Says:

They have done studies that show a relationship between dairy foods and acne. I myself stopped eating dairy and my back acne cleared up, so i think it has more to do with diet than we think. But i do agree with everything else he said.

@parisgala Removing those spots requires strict use of sunscreen, exfoliants, and bleaches. For more information, search YouTube for the DermTV episode titled, “How to Remove Brown Spots”.

  12. aimesunstar Says:

i have what i think are acne scars but they are just black/brown spots that appear when my acne is starting to leave, (i pick my acne) so what do you think could help remove my brown spots

How do derms really like neutrogena? becase they always brag they are “number one reccomended” and by derm said, ehh, so I was just wondering, haha.

and can lasers help very mild teenage acne? like i only get tiny little white heads in the t-zone, but i want flawless skin, would this benefit? :)

  14. dermTVdotcom Says:

@MaicoMoon: FDA guidelines for use of Accutane in the USA requires failure of treatment with several antibiotics before Accutane is prescribed for treatment of acne. Using Accutane as a first treatment is in fact “off label use.”

  15. dermTVdotcom Says:

@Cherriedesu: Yes, in very small amounts, so by the time you ate enough for it to cause acne breakouts, your tongue would have fallen out!

  16. Cherriedesu Says:

is iodine also contained in table salt? the should we have less intake of that?
    thanks!

  17. MaicoMoon Says:

Dr. Schultz, I heard that dermatologists will put their new patients on milder antibiotics and wait to use accutane as a last resort. What if the patient wants accutane right off the bat, since like you said, it gets rid of the oil 100%. I know there are negative side effects with using accutane, but it is common for patients to come in requesting accutane and getting it right away, instead of wasting money on other things that may not work as well? That’s what I would do if I went to a derm.

  18. florxiriod28 Says:

I think you should write a book

Iodine causes acne.. like in thyroid pills? I’m on thyroid pills but just to control thyroid, I never knew that it caused acne? .. I do breakout here and there but never saw a correlation..

  22. fdxnaoseinomes Says:

Yes some people eat chocolate and next day appeared pimples.

  23. Quiteinfamous Says:

What do you think of Zapzyt and Zeno?

    Excellent video.

@MaliBilly: Water and eating is good, but you’ll need to do more than that to control your acne. For information on acne treatment, check out DermTV episode #124, “Acne Treatment in Three Easy Steps.” I’d paste the link here but YouTube doesn’t allow it. That being said, just enter the title of the episode into the YouTube search and it should be the first result. I hope it helps!
